Presbyterian Children's Home Update

Presbyterian Children's Homes & Services

May 7, 2008

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I know that you continue to be concerned about the children from the Eldorado FLDS sect, so I want to offer an update about our efforts in this situation.

For almost two weeks, several of these children have been in the care of Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services on our Waxahachie campus. The range of emotions we have seen has been similar to what we see from most children who are separated from their families. They have clustered together to support one another.

In the days that they have been with us, the children seem to have adapted to the comfort and safety of our homes. Their days are filled with household activities, worship and play time, including kickball, jump-rope and tag. We have given them chalk, crayons and Etch A Sketches, and they are participating in educational games every day to help us assess their literacy and other learning needs.

We are not hiding our culture, but we're certainly sensitive to theirs. For now, this group is not interacting with the other children on our campus, and we are limiting the number of staff who are interacting with them. It's a very slow process of developing trust, and we are progressing as well as we could hope.

Please remember that we offer Christ-centered services to about 300 children and families every day who are struggling with poverty, neglect, abuse and other harmful situations - work we would not be able to do without God's grace and your support.

If you would like to help us during this historic time in our ministry, please consider taking one or more of the following actions:
  • Continue to pray for our staff and ALL of the children and families we serve.
  • Receive a special offering to benefit Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services.
  • Request a presentation, minute for mission or bulletin inserts by calling 1-800-888-1904.
  • Forward this message to friends and colleagues to let them know about what we are doing.

Thank you for helping us provide for the needs of all the children and families whom God entrusts to our care. Please visit our website for updates or to make a gift online. Or send your offering through the mail to: PCHAS Central Office, 4407 Bee Cave Road, Suite 520, Austin, TX 78746.
