We’ve got Soap, Socks and Scissors

Now all the (PW) Presbyterian Women need to fill the seafarers’ Christmas boxes is your help and generosity.

We have  plenty of tooth brushes, but no tooth paste! We need deodorant and disposable razors, lip balm and floss, pocket combs and nail clippers, tissue packs and even a few more 2014 calendars.

A seaman from the Philippines once said, “Every seafarer prays to come to Houston during the Christmas season. Shoe-boxes are filled with just the things we really must have and we’d never buy on our salaries.”

Donations can be put in the recycle center in McPhail Hall or delivered to church office.

P.S. Monetary donations are happily accepted and we will shop for you!             — Joann Navratil

Adopt-a-family from M.D. Anderson

This is the time of year when MD Anderson adopts families in need to help them have a good Christmas despite receiving cancer treatments.

If you would also like to donate, you can write a check to MD Anderson "adopt-a-family" and deliver to the church office or place it in the Sunday Offering plate. Thank you so much for your support of this worthy project .Deadline: December 1                                                        — Mary Hughes

About Your Portrait Session: Please allow up to one hour for your professional portrait session. Be prepared for your session and show the real you! We often photograph families and individuals with their meaningful items: special keepsakes, sports equipment, musical instruments, etc. Many families wear coordinating colors for a unified look. For families and individuals, we suggest solid colored shirts with long sleeves

October 6 Church Bulletin Highlights

Blessing of the Animals Today
4 pm - Courtyard

Choir (Children and Youth) Practice Today: Our choir needs more musicians (singers and instrumentalists) than just elementary age singers. All ages are invited to join us after Sunday Worship in Room 209 as we work on learning new canons (rounds) and rehearse our song, “If I Were a Butterfly,” and the ringing of the melody line for “All Things Bright and Beautiful” which we will sing today at the Blessing of the Animals.

Dear Readers: Book Group is meeting on Tuesday, October 8, at 7:30 pm, discussing the last two chapters of How God Became King by NT Wright. We'll also be discussing which book to read next, so be on the alert for options. Happy reading!       – Kay Greer

Sandwich: Volunteers are needed to place sandwich meat between two slices of bread and place in a baggie! That’s how you can help feed our city’s hungry children. Come to Fellowship Hall at 6 pm Wednesday and truly make a difference in a child’s life.

Congratulations to Vera Newell: Vera will be honored at a dinner on October 10 for 21 years of service at Braes Interfaith Ministries (BIM). Bravo Vera!
