Sunday Announcements - May 3, 2009
Special Education Advocacy, Wednesday, May 6: Everyone is invited to learn about becoming a volunteer advocate, partnering with at-risk children and their families and walking with them through the special educational process. Please meet in Room 205 at 10 am to learn more. Contact Suzette Harrel or Ann Hardy for more information.
Life Line Screening, Building One: Have you suffered a broken bone in your hip or spine? Do you feel as if you are getting shorter? If you answer “yes” to either of these questions, you may want to consider being screened for the risk of osteoporosis. We are pleased to offer a Life Line Screening preventive health event, Saturday, May 9, that can be used to detect just such a risk. The osteoporosis screening is not only for women. Of the 10 million Americans who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, 2 million are men. Your health is in your hands, so call 1-888-653-6441, or visit www.lifelinescreening.com, for more information.
Senior Reception, May 10: Please join our three 2009 graduating seniors, Will Harrel, Jarrett Lindsey and Princess Muanza and their families for a special reception in their honor in McPhail Hall following the worship service. If you know of any more graduates, please notify Mary, mary2d@yahoo.com.
Sharing Our Parking Lot: St. John’s will be providing overflow parking for the Westbury Giant White Elephant Garage Sale, which will take place on Saturday, May 16 (rain date) at Westbury United Methodist.
Scholarship Application Deadline, June 15: The Myrtis McPhail Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship grant to any active St. John’s member to be used for undergraduate study and/or a technical or trade school. Applications can be picked up in the church office.
Flower Dates Available: St. John’s has 3 empty flower dates on the calendar: June 21, October 4 and November 8. Please contact the church office if you are interested in signing up for these times.
