St. John's Epistle for October 4, 2012

Dear beloved children of God,

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday and we will receive the Peacemaking Offering.
Come to Worship dressed in clothes representative of other countries. The sermon text this Sunday is Mark 10:2-16 and the sermon title is Jesus as Spiritual Divorce Coach.

This Saturday, October 6, join us for breakfast in McPhail hall at 8 am. At 8:30 am our guest speakers, Tom and Claire MacAdam, physical therapists, will discuss therapy benefits and how it can make a tremendous difference in a person's life.

This Saturday is the Focus event sponsored by the presbytery and offered to everyone free of charge. Here is a link to the FOCUS brochure.

On Saturday, October 13, come celebrate the 56th anniversary of our congregation. Bring a potluck dish for dinner in McPhail from 5:00 - 6:15 pm with a program to follow. Our program will highlight the special moments in our church's past. St. John's was founded in 1956. Come be surprised at what has occurred at St. John's in our 56 year history, from 1956-2012. If you want to come to the anniversary dinner and program and need a ride, please call either Linda Dobbin, 281-778-5348, or the church office, 713-723-6262.

Here are our September 30 blood drive results: Donors: 19; Whole Blood:15; Red Cell Plasma: 2; Total Products: 19; Deferrals: 2. In total we collected 19 units and saved nearly 57 lives! We hope to see you at our next drive on December 2.

The Worship Committee is looking for ushers for the upcoming months (October, November, December 2012 and January 2013). Please contact the church office (office.sjpc@gmail.com) or talk to Lynne Parsons Austin.

Trunk-or-Treat, Sunday October 28, 6 pm: Trunks and treats are needed for our Halloween Tailgating. Please contact Mary Sterner, mary2d@yahoo.com to volunteer.

BIM Alert: Braes Interfaith Ministries is desperately in need of toiletries: toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo and soap, etc. Please deliver to the church office or the recycle room, McPhail Hall.

Your partner in Christ's service,
Jon Burnham
