August 11 Sunday Reminders

St. John’s Wonder Team, Wednesday, August 14: Sandwich Makers are needed! Please meet in McPhail Hall at 6 pm to make 300+ sandwiches for local children.

Family Movie Night, Saturday, August 17: Everyone is invited to the special showing of Mamma Mia! in the session room. This 2008 musical features the music of ABBA. Doors open at 5:30 pm with movie starting at 6 pm.

Rally Day, Sunday, August 25: St. John’s begins the fall Sunday School schedule with a Rally Day celebration in McPhail Hall at 9 am. Everyone is invited whether or not you are planning to attend Sunday school fall classes.

Backpack Blessing, Sunday, August 25: All students and teachers (primary, secondary and college) are invited to bring their backpacks to church for a “Blessing of the Backpack” during worship at 10:30 am.

Book Group, Thursday, August 29: "We are now approaching the heart of the four gospels, the dense and complex center of their world of meaning." And so begins chapter 8 which we will be discussing-along with chapter 9-at our next book meeting. All are welcome. The book we'll be discussing is How God Became King by N.T. Wright. Join the group for some lively discussion about a fascinating book.

Feeling called by God? If you would like to like to tutor students at Shearn Elementary School (9802 Stella Link Road) please call Pastor Fred Tow (713-663-7550, ext. 108) at the Chinese Baptist Church.

Sunday After-Church Snacks: The office is looking for people who would like to serve snacks after Sunday. You would have to only serve one Sunday each month and the snacks are provided. If interested please talk to Pam (Room 208) or call (713-723-6262) or email (office.sjpc@gmail.com) the church office.

♥ Betty Robinson is purchasing shoes for students at Shearn Elementary. Look for the collection box in Bldg 1 to help Betty with her project.
