August 18 - Sunday Reminders

Kroger Community Rewards: Bring your Kroger Plus Card to the table near the stage and volunteers will link your card to St. John’s number. Starting in September every time you shop at Kroger, Braes Interfaith Ministries will benefit.

Rally Day, Sunday, August 25: St. John’s begins the fall Sunday School schedule with a Rally Day celebration in McPhail Hall at 9 am.

Backpack Blessing, Sunday, August 25: All students and teachers (primary, secondary and college) are invited to bring their backpacks to church for a “Blessing of the Backpack” during worship at 10:30 am.

Book Group, Thursday, August 29: "We are now approaching the heart of the four gospels, the dense and complex center of their world of meaning." And so begins chapter 8 which we will be discussing-along with chapter 9-at our next book meeting. All are welcome. The book we'll be discussing is How God Became King by N.T. Wright. Join the group for some lively discussion about a fascinating book.

St. John’s Breakfast, September 14: Please come at 8 am for breakfast. At 8:30 Rev. David Wells will be our speaker. David is one of our chaplains at the Houston Ship Channel. He will enlighten us on caroling in December (two different Saturday nights in December), Christmas boxes, DVD donations, and the possibility of taking a group out to the ship channel and bringing goodies (cookies, fruit trays, cheese and crackers, etc.) The seafarers love time with people other than the crews they work with every day. We would love to see you on the 14th (second Sunday) and bring as many friends as you like.

Feeling called by God? If you would like to tutor students at Shearn Elementary School (9802 Stella Link Road) please call Pastor Fred Tow (713-663-7550, ext. 108) at the Chinese Baptist Church.
