And remember to drop in the store and see their changing merchandise. For every single dollar earned, Braes Interfaith Ministries can purchase $27 worth of food from the Houston Food Bank.

August 25 Sunday Morning Highlights

Book Group, Thursday, August 29: "We are now approaching the heart of the four gospels, the dense and complex center of their world of meaning." And so begins chapter 8 which we will be discussing-along with chapter 9-at our next book meeting. All are welcome. The book we'll be discussing is How God Became King by N.T. Wright. Join the group for some lively discussion about a fascinating book.

Presbyterian Women’s Association Meeting: Everyone is invited to the Association Meeting, Tuesday, September 3, at 9:30 am, for an overview presented by Rev. Linda Herron of the upcoming Bible Study, An abiding Hope: The Presence of God in Exodus and Deuteronomy. The Bible Study Circles will meet on Sunday, September 15, after worship, and Tuesday, September 17 at 9:30 am.

Everyone is Invited: Please come to McPhail Hall after worship on Sunday, September 8, for a 100th birthday celebration for George McDowell.

New Unbinding Class, Unbinding Our Souls: Pastor Jon will teach a new 6 week Unbinding class for 30 people on Sunday, September 8 at 4 pm in the Session Room. If you have participated in a previous Unbinding group and want more, speak to Pastor Jon to get your new book. (On the other hand, if you have not had an Unbinding experience and want one, speak to Pastor Jon about starting with a new group for first timers.) The unbinding experience has led us to a more positive outlook, led to a greater sense of community, and a greater sharing of our hearts with one another. We look forward to the work of the Holy Spirit as we continue unbinding our souls.

Presbyterian Youth Fellowship (PYF) Kick-off: Youth 6th to 12th grade are invited to the first fall meeting, Sunday, September 8, 5-6:30 pm. Come play Minutes to Wins It.

St. John’s Breakfast, September 14: Please come at 8 am for breakfast. At 8:30 Rev. David Wells will be our speaker. David is one of our chaplains at the Houston Ship Channel. He will enlighten us on caroling in December (two different Saturday nights in December), Christmas boxes, DVD donations, and the possibility of taking a group out to the ship channel and bringing goodies (cookies, fruit trays, cheese and crackers, etc.) The seafarers love time with people other than the crews they work with every day. We would love to see you on the 14th (second Sunday) and bring as many friends as you like.

Become Part of our Worship Service: The Worship Committee is looking for KIND Souls to great and usher in October, November, December and January. A sign-up sheet will be available next Sunday.

Fill the Ark

Fill the Ark

Fill the Ark is a special project through Heifer International. Between now and the Living Gift Market, November 24, we hope to raise $5000 to donate towards this project. By donating to the Fill the Ark project, millions of people who were once hungry will be nourished by milk, eggs and fresh vegetables. Families who for generations knew only poverty will be building new homes and starting businesses. By contributing to this project, we will be helping people obtain a sustainable source of food and income.

Please pick up a Fill the Ark bank at church, load it up with your spare change and return it to the Fill the Ark box in Vivian’s office.
