St. John's The Epistle - March 14, 2010

Dear church members and friends of St. John's,

This Sunday we will welcome four new members into our church family!
Dora Belton; Marian and George MacNeill; and Mary Sterner will join by
transfer of letter from other Presbyterian Churches. We are excited to
welcome them into our church fellowship! We look forward to their
continued contributions to our mission and ministry.

The sermon this Sunday from Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32 is the familiar
parable of the prodigal son but we will look at it in a different
light this time. We will focus in on the elder brother in the parable
and how he was paralyzed by resentment. Malachy McCourt once said,
"Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to
die." How are we poisoning ourselves with resentment? Who are we
hurting when we allow resentment to fester inside us? Such reflections
are especially appropriate during the Lenten season as we allow the
Holy Spirit to shine a laser light into our souls and expose the
corruption within.

Last Sunday we commissioned Léonie Tchoconté to Haiti & Kathie Hartzog
to Uganda. Keep them in prayer as they continue their mission work
there on our behalf.

Hear is our Holy Week schedule: March 28, Passion/Palm Sunday,
Confirmation Sunday and Easter Egg Hunt at 5 pm, April 1, Maundy
