2010 Mustard Seed Project

Mustard Seed participants received $100 each from a grant from the Presbytery to serve an at-risk child or several children in his/her community through acts of compassion. Accepting the challenge this year are Jana Burnham, Jennifer Burnham, Linda Dobbin, Jennifer Durand, Kay Greer, Brittney Modlin, Wayne Patterson and Lydia Schneider. Read below to learn how to help two Mustard Seed participants meet this challenge.

Children’s Book Donations Needed

Recently Jennifer Durand’s and Ernesto Rodriguez’ niece lost her fight against colon cancer. To carry on Luz Angela’s memory and love of teaching, a reading corner will be developed at the UH Downtown campus in Alief.

To help build the “Luz’ Reading Corner,” Jennifer is collecting new and “very gently used” children’s books, especially books about geography, social studies and science, although Jennifer is accepting any and all children’s books. A collection container is located by the church office. If interested please write Luz Angela’s name and your name (the donor) on the inside book cover. With the new school year quickly approaching, the deadline for donating books is July 25.

Making Children Smile

Jennifer and Jana Burnham are using their Mustard Seed project to help needy children in families served by BIM. They are asking for donations of new small stuffed animals, toothbrushes and paste. The stuffed animals will bring smiles and comfort to the children and the toothbrushes and paste will provide good basic dental hygiene. Donation boxs are outside the church office and in McPhail Hall.
