St. John's Weekly Reminders, July 25

Today’s Summer Brunch: Please come to McPhail Hall following worship. The Christian Education Committee and PYF are working in the kitchen today. After brunch a cake auction will be held. Proceeds benefit youth activities. Everyone is welcome.

Pennies for Peace – August 1: Bring your pennies (or any change) the first Sunday of the month. We’ll collect them in the Narthex after church. Help build schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan that welcome female students.

Mustard Seed Project: Jennifer and Jana Burnham are asking for new small stuffed animals, toothpaste and toothbrushes, which will bring smiles to the children whose parents are BIM clients. A collection box is located by the church office.

Children’s Book Donations Needed, Deadline July 25: Recently Jennifer Durand and Ernesto Rodriguez’ niece lost her fight against colon cancer. To carry on Luz Angela’s memory and love of teaching, a reading corner will be developed at the UH Downtown campus in Alief. To help build the “Luz’ Reading Corner,” Jennifer is collecting new and “very gently used” children's books. A collection container is located by the church office.

Faith Summit, August 12: Did you know that Houston is ranked among the lowest in the nation in caring for our children? The Faith Summit, kicking off A Week of Prayer for Children and Youth, will provide up-to-date information on the issues and current needs of at-risk children; it will highlight practical ways to respond, and it will mobilize prayer for the children of our city. The Summit will be held at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. To register, visit the Children at Risk website, clicking on August 12 Faith Summit.

Today we welcome to our pulpit: The Reverend Mr. Mike Karim.
He serves with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) among the International Students and graduate students at Rice University and the University of Houston. Although this might break with tradition, Reverend Karim asks that you call him “Mike.”
